According to an article on Ars Technica entitled, Apple loses big in DRM ruling: jailbreaks are “fair use”, the Library of Congress has added a bevy of new exceptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act altering the way we’re allowed to use much of the digital media and devices we have.

Sorry about not updating in a while folks, had some real life crap take away the brain space I usually use for writing, but now things are looking totally up, so I’ll be back on a regular basis bringing my (hopefully interesting) opinions and such on geek stuff. Today I’m going to talk about why, in the face of design flaws, bitchy PR responses and more viable competition than in previous years, I’m sticking with the iPhone platform. I current have a iPhone 3G I got back in August, 2008, and I’ve been pretty happy with it. Sure, there are some things I wish it did better (like it’s awful, awful notification system for one), but it’s been two years, and the poor thing has started to get glitchy — like having to turn off the phone and back on to get a good GPS signal more and more often — so it’s time to upgrade, especially since my contract is up with AT&T next month.

Well…yeah…yesterday was a giant clusterfuck for people wanting to buy the new iPhone, and like always, you can pretty much put the blame on AT&T, who has now put a hold on pre-orders. What happened? Well, according to various sources, AT&T’s systems didn’t expect the surge of pre-orders for the new iPhone 4, and of course choked when millions of people tried to pre-order it around the same time.

The big news of the day is the announcement (finally) of the upcoming iPhone, the iPhone 4 (no, sorry, not the HD, or the 4G…just the 4…). Another big game release, at least to me, is the new Transformers G1 Awakening game, a turn-based strategy games based on the original (or G1, for “Generation One”) Transformers characters. Available for $4.99 in the App Store, it’s gotten pretty decent reviews from both Touch Arcade and Slide to Play. I’ll be downloading this one myself real soon.

According to The iPhone Blog, classic RPG’s Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II are both now available in the App Store for $8.99 each. I’ve never played these games myself, but knowing how popular the series is, I thought I should share. ;)

Over on The Unofficial Apple Weblog, they’ve gotten a chance to play around with the Parrot AR.Drone, a helicopter (or quadrocopter) that is remotely controlled with an iPhone app. It looks pretty cool, and I’m definitely wanting to try one of these things.

Okay, this is just cute. According to a post over on The Unnoficial Apple Weblog, there’s a user over on Etsy who has made a set of adorable felt iPhone icon keychains. The same person also has a bunch of other cute stuff, like a felt Gameboy iPhone/iPod case. Don’tcha just love the Intarwebs for giving us stuff like this?
